In January, at their annual industry conference in Toronto, the association of Promotional Products Professionals of Canada bestowed one of their greatest honours, the prestigious Humanitarian of the Year award for 2009, on BG founder and Chief Bargain Officer, Jody Steinhauer. In a packed ballroom filled with her peers, ‘Bargain Jody' was graciously recognized for her endless time, devotion, creativity and financial support for numerous causes.
Jody is deeply committed to giving back to her local community and other communities across Canada by helping her fellow citizens who are less fortunate, especially those who are homeless or at a high risk of homelessness. In addition to offering an incredible amount of volunteer work through leadership in several charitable projects, she also assists charitable programs throughout Canada to maximize their limited funds by offering deeply discounted items that charities require to provide the basic necessities for their clients.
Jody is the lead organizer/founder or key project volunteer for several charitable/volunteer projects that combined have assisted over 1,000,000 (one million!) Canadians in need to date. Through projects such as Project Winter survival , which helps better equip the homeless for life on the cold wintery streets of the GTA, and Project Water, responsible for handing out badly needed water bottles and other protective supplies during Toronto's equally oppressive hot, humid summers on the streets of downtown Toronto. In accepting her award, Jody took the opportunity to “educate” her fellow promotions companies and, once again, go to bat for non-profits everywhere with some very heartfelt yet stern words. Specifically, Jody publicly announced the shocking lack of support among industry members when asked to contribute to Project Winter Survival just recently. Amidst many complaints by other award recipients that night regarding this tough economic climate, Jody drove home her point by reminding everyone of the many less fortunate in all our communities, and, as always, that “Giving back makes good business sense.” |
