Press Release: Canada Cartage distributes six loads of life-saving water – Wire Service
The transportation company shows its annual support for Project Water by delivering six truckloads of bottled water to front line relief organizations and homeless shelters across the GTA.
WireService.ca Press Release – 07/17/2013 – Toronto, Ontario – Canada Cartage was pleased, for the 5th consecutive year, to participate in Project Water by delivering six truckloads of water, for homeless shelters in the Greater Toronto Area. Founded by Jody Steinhauer, President of The Bargains Group, Project Water addresses the lack of fresh drinking water available for homeless people and the dangers of severe dehydration during the summer months.
“Most people don’t realize that more homeless people die of dehydration during the summer months than from exposure to the elements in the winter,” says Jody Steinhauer, Founder of Project Water, “Our initiatives are helping save lives”.
Since its inception, the project has distributed in excess of 1.5 million bottles of fresh drinking water to the homeless through front-line relief organizations during extreme heat alerts. This year, Project Water was able to distribute 370,000 bottles of water to over 170 relief organizations and homeless shelters in southwestern Ontario, including The Canadian Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and The Scott Mission. Year after year, Project Water has expanded its reach with the generous support of local business sponsors and community-minded volunteers.
During the initiative, transportation partner Canada Cartage provided six dedicated trailers and drivers to pick up and temporarily warehouse the bottles of water. Employees pitched in using pallet trucks and forklifts to transport the water from the trailers and facilitate distribution throughout the day.
“We really can’t thank Canada Cartage enough, as without each and every sponsor Project Water wouldn’t be possible. We hear from the front line agencies daily on what a difference this water makes over the extreme heat of the summer months. It is an incredible thing you have done. “, comments Marnie Zamperoni, from The Bargains Group.
With the success of the project in the GTA, plans are currently underway to expand this life saving project to other major centres across Canada.
