3,000 Survival Kits Packed and Ready to go to the Homeless

Project Winter Survival distributes kits through frontline agencies on January 19, 2013

TORONTO – January 17, 2013 – As temperatures continue to drop over the next few days, concern for the welfare of the city’s homeless population will rise. Living on the streets at the best of times is difficult enough. This Saturday, January 19, Project Winter Survival, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing essential supplies to people living on the street during the winter season, will distribute 3,000 survival kits through 172 frontline agencies situated throughout GTA and its outskirts.

Organizations such as the Red Cross, Covenant House, Scott Mission, Eva’s Initiative, Salvation Army and other shelters, outreach groups and community churches will pick-up the kits from Project Winter Survival’s headquarters at 890 Caledonia Rd beginning at noon. Kits will then be transported by truck and dropped off at agencies in Toronto, Brantford, Hamilton, Sutton, St. Catharines, Mississauga, Oshawa, Maple, Barrie, East Gwillimbury, Cambridge, Markham, Woodbridge, Orangeville, Welland, Newmarket and Richmond Hill.

Project Winter Survival will also be premiering a new broadcast PSA campaign made by BLAMMO Worldwide.

For the past 14 years, Project Winter Survival and its team of volunteers & donors have assembled and distributed more than 15,000 kits to homeless throughout the GTA and beyond. This year, Project Winter Survival received close to 11,000 requests for kits from front-line agencies.
