Men’s Club Honours Women’s Leadership in Fight Against Homelessness
TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Sept. 17, 2012) – Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network CEO Camille Orridge, United Way of Greater Toronto CEO Susan McIsaac, Ecuhome ED Angie Hains, and The Bargains Group CEO Jody Steinhauer headline the 2012 edition of the Paul Croutch Awards from The Good Neighbours’ Club.
- WHO: The Good Neighbours’ Club is a small but mighty agency dedicated to the needs of older homeless and marginalized men. In addition to basics such as meals, showers, and free clothing, The Good Neighbours’ Club is developing a wide range of front-line social and medical services in conjunction with partner agencies and volunteer professionals. Award recipients include industry leaders from the public, non-profit, and private sectors. CityNews Anchor and Reporter Roger Petersen from Citytv will be our master of ceremonies.
- WHAT: A memorial for homeless men will be followed by the presentation of four awards given in honour of deceased journalist Paul Croutch. Mr. Croutch, having through personal struggled joined the ranks of the homeless, became a member of The Good Neighbours’ Club. He was savagely beaten to death in a public park near the Club after nightfall. His death and the death of those who face the terrors of homelessness have become the inspiration for the Paul Croutch Awards given out for outstanding service to the needs of the homeless.
- WHEN: Our Day of the Homeless will take place at The Good Neighbours’ Club at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 19, 2012. The memorial and award ceremony will be followed by a community barbecue in the courtyard of The Good Neighbours’ Club.
- WHERE: The ceremony will take place at The Good Neighbours’ Club at 170 Jarvis Street in Toronto, which is on the west side of Jarvis Street between Dundas and Shuter Streets.
- WHY: This event honours the leadership of women in the fight against poverty and homelessness-by the members of an all-male Club.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: This event will be of special interest to those reporting on issues of health, poverty, social services, and cooperation among government, non-profits, and social service agencies.
