Project Water – 2012

Project Water along with hundreds of volunteers; various relief organizations such as the Salvation Army, YMCA, St. John’s Ambulance, Fred Victor Centre, Red Cross, Scott Mission, Youth Unlimited, and Street Health Bus; and generous sponsors are combining forces and gearing up to distribute free, clean drinking water to the homeless and needy. On Thursday, July 5 Nestlé Waters Canada will deliver 310,464 bottles of water to Project Water’s headquarters at 890 Calendonia Rd. Also providing valued assistance is Danamark Water Filtration Systems setting up filtration systems at community centres and shelters so residents and clients always have access to cool, clean water.

Founded by Jody Steinhauer, President of The Bargains Group, Project Water was born in response to the inexcusable fact that more homeless people die from dehydration in the summer months than from exposure in the winter. Each year Jody and the Bargain’s Group team commit hundred’s of hours of their time to Project Water: securing the water bottles; warehousing the product; lining up volunteers to help load the water; and, leading the distribution of the product through front-line relief organizations to the homeless during extreme heat alerts. Since its inception, the program has placed in excess of one million bottles of water into the hands of Toronto and surrounding area homeless through over 150 front-line relief organizations and homeless shelters.

Project Water would not be possible if it wasn’t for the generous community minded sponsors such as Nestle Waters Canada, The Bargains Group, Home Depot, Michael Communications PR, Danamark Water Care, Canada Cartage and the hundreds of volunteers.
